Human Fragility

I have a new theme.
Up and coming:

"Human Fragility."

as inspired by most recent events.
I'm not sure exactly in what way I'm going to investigate it, but I'm drawn to it and so that is where I'm going.

Love to all.

New Work: Lithographs

Hello all,

As following my current themes of work, I created my first lithograph of the semester; it focuses on mainly themes of neglect and absence within the urban landscape. The negative and positive space is reversed, emphasizing on emptiness.

Surprisingly enough... the print turned out! I'm definitely not historically a successful lithographer, so I'm quite pleased.

Enjoy,
Kylie

stream of consciousness

skyscrapers. row homes. landscape. parks. trees. rural v urban. abstracted, cubist, monotonous. Schuylkill. portraits. history within a city. family history. germantown. imagery of alley ways. doors. windows. internal v external. philadelphia philadelphia. brotherly love. love. growing up. imagery of family in the philadelphia environment. my family. someone else's family. block parties. friends. enemies. differences within environments. squares, circles. buildings. growth. urban sprawl. maps. text. city. pollution. environmental issues within the city. "green". integration. disintegration. art. textures. swatch of texture, zoom of picture plane. street signs. culture. children. white and black. black and white. color. city grid revisited
overlap. cities i've visited (national, international?). morocco: fez, casablanca. spain: barcelona, madrid. italy: rome, florence, naples, orvieto, todi, tuscania, siena, la spezia, cinque terre, dieva marina, assisi, pompeii. places i want to visit (too numerous to write about). city life. life in general. too general. life in specifics. toronto is a hopping place in the art world... surprised. examining cultures of different cities. class hierarchy within cities. city hierarchy within the world. landscape.

i need to make some art.

Decisions, Decisions.

I've decided
that I'm going to start painting again, with oils.
that I am going to dedicate at least a little time every night to non-school art.
that I am going to be at peace with the fact our house never stays clean for more than 2 days.
that I'm going to be more positive.
and that I am going to make sure that I am always doing what I want to be doing.

Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show

Hello!

I spent the weekend showing my work at Rittenhouse Square; shared the tent with two other Tyler seniors, Meredith and Sarah, and it was a stellar experience. Not only did I sell my first non-commissioned work, I sold my first FIVE non-commissioned works! Hoorah! Say good bye to:

(Untitled Monoprint on Green: Framed. Not in frame here)

Brotherly Love III (Silkscreen & Collage)

[Mis]Communication (Etching & Chine Colle)

"Brotherly Love VI" EV (Etching & Chine Colle)

"Brotherly Love V" (Etching)

The experience was great; I got to meet local art dealers, artists and other students. The amount of talent at the show was of a high caliber and I was extremely humbled to be showing with such wonderful people!

Blessings,
Kylie

I'm joining the blog world.

I just spent the last two days fruitlessly trying to start my own website; I visited roughly eight different website-generators and all had some underlying feature that prevented success. I have deeper reasoning for this; I am enrolled in a class all about getting your self and your work out in to the world... so, I'm slowly trying to do that.

Finally, I'm settling on a blog instead. I feel as though its not exactly the right fit, but at the very least its a forum to settle into.

I am an artist living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my fiance, Andre and our crazy dog, Dallas. I primarily create prints, and these pages will serve more or less as my way of presenting them. I make my art in order to fulfill a deeper need within myself; it is an act of self-exploration and expression, as well as an act of enjoyment. I have spent the last few years exploring the urban landscape of the city of Philadelphia (and also, briefly of Rome, Italy, as I spent the last semester there). I am interested in the characteristics of the city, what makes it uniquely so, and why it is happening around me. I am currently working on finishing my studies at Tyler School of Art, in Elkins Park, and I'm teaching fine arts part-time and working in a small store in Chestnut Hill.

So, here we go!
